Anna Wintour, the big boss of the fashion industry, definitely must have some secrets to success. As editor-in-chief of fashion bible Vogue she has had her share with difficulties, opportunities and experience. These are her five top tips to get what you want.
1. Get sacked
“I think everyone should get sacked at least once. It forces you to look at yourself. It didn't feel it at the time, but it was definitely a good thing for what it taught me. It is important to have setbacks, because that is the reality of life. Perfection doesn't exist.”
2. Fake it 'til you make it
“Even if you aren't sure of yourself, pretend that you are, because it makes it clearer for everyone else. Most people prevaricate. I decide fast. I think it's helpful to people who work for you. the world we are in is about instinct and being fast and responding.”
3. Get out there!
“In today’s world you have to interact. You can’t really be some difficult, shy person who is not able to look somebody in the face. You have to present yourself. You have to know how to talk about your vision, your focus, and what you believe in. If you can’t be passionate about who you are and what you are doing: how can they [your audience] be?”
“Go get a job. Whether it’s working as a designer or working in a restaurant and then doing your own thing in your own time. It’s a reality of life. In the end it’s going to be helpful to you and so many others.”
5. Take risks
"It's very important to take risks. I think that research is very important, but in the end you have to work from your instinct and feeling and take those risks and be fearless."
