Starting next week on Thursday, July 6, we will take you on an investigation of undocumented children coming unaccompanied from Central America to the U.S.
It is an increasing concern, as former Ambassador from El Salvador to the U.S. Rene Leon shared with us.
How are their human rights treated when they are captured and detained. How is the tutelage designated?
Are we seeing a double discourse on Human Rights, with the rights of these children not being protected in America?
Back at the office we checked the numbers. They are staggering, indeed.
According to a 2016 report by the Congressional Research Center, authorities apprehended more than 52,000 children originally from the “northern triangle” of Central America (El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras) in 2014. Compared to 2011, this is a 1,200% increase, the report says.
In the next month, we will take you on the road to explore what's up with these kids. Stay tuned.
